ABOUT YOGA TAPESTRY

”When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.“ – John Muir

We share many elements with nature, which are expressed through our patterns of living. They appear in our thoughts, actions, emotions, dreams. Observe how nature restores itself after a forest fire, a flood, an ice storm. We, too, have the potential to restore ourselves after stress, illness, injury, or grief. Yoga Tapestry acknowledges this rich, colorful yogic tradition that weaves a healing tapestry through practice and self-study. Through yoga, we uncover our connection to others, community, nature, the universe, and most importantly, our Self.

In my 20-plus years in health care, I saw how people suffered from poor choices. Later, working in cardiovascular disease prevention education, I guided people toward making healthier choices. I initiated the first yoga program for cardiac rehab at Spectrum Health after studying with Nischala Devi, who developed Yoga of the Heart for Dr. Dean Ornish’s Reversing Heart Disease program. I also initiated yoga classes at Gilda’s Club in Grand Rapids.

During this time, I recognized I’m no different than anyone else. I suffered the effects of behaviors that didn’t serve me. Through yoga, I developed compassion toward myself and discovered pathways to freedom from pain and misalignment in my body. Yoga teaches us that the truth of our essential nature is goodness. It supports us as we cultivate an environment to quiet our minds and see clearly to the bottom of our hearts – where all the good stuff is. Open to your pure potential by choosing what serves you and releasing what diminishes you.

Since beginning my yoga teacher training in 1998, I have studied extensively with John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga, established “Anusara Inspired” status, and continue to study with many renowned certified Anusara teachers. My yoga therapy teachers include Doug Keller, Leslie Kaminoff, and Nischala Devi. I am a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and the Michigan Yoga Association. My teachers continue to emerge in the faces of my students, my volunteer connections, and in my eyes shining back at me in the mirror.
